Julie was born in Sussex in 1963, and after several years in London has now returned to the South Downs in East Sussex to live and work.

During her time in London she studied life drawing and portraiture at the Heatherly School of Fine Art in Chelsea.

“Most of my paintings at the moment are still-lifes. The starting point is a colour combination that I may have seen in nature, or spotted in a magazine or a garden. The painting is then built around that colour scheme, using the collected bits and pieces in my studio: dried flowers, seed heads, glass and silver. I particularly like painting objects that have no strong colour of their own, but reflect the colours around them.  What's going on around the subject is often semi-abstract.”
